The youngest of two boys, born to an Engineer and a Pharmacist in Manila, Philippines on April 22. Due to the father’s engineering job, he was raised in different cities like Karachi, Beirut, Kabul, Bangkok and the US territory of Guam, which inspired him to be a fashion designer. The family eventually moved back permanently to the Philippines out of the father’s insistence to raise his family with Filipino values.
Albert’s early education included a catholic formation in San Sebastian College and later at the University of the East. He also studied Interior Design for a year at the University of Sto.Tomas, the Pontifical University in the Philippines, then finally decided to shift to Fashion Design at Slim’s Fashion School. After finishing his course, the trendy Pizzazz Boutique in Makati, the Philippines’ Central Business and Financial District, hired him immediately as the House Designer.
One of the biggest surprises in his life came when his mother opened a fashion house for him as a gift. The brand ALBERT ANDRADA was born. He first concentrated on bridal – evening gowns and later on ventured into corporate uniforms for multinational companies.
Albert became a member of the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines (FDAP), a prestigious organization of Filipino designers in the Philippines, and also a member of Issetan’s Board of Designers. In 1987, he moved to the Middle East to assume the position of the Chief Creative Director in one of the prestigious fashion houses. There, he was also elected to head The Society of Filipino Fashion Designers, an organization of Filipino fashion designers which helped distressed Filipinos in the fashion circle in the kingdom. He was again offered to open a fashion house in Dubai in 1997.
Year 2002 opened up greater horizons for Albert. He entered the prestigious Swarovski’s Bridal Designers’ Competition (Professional Category) with “The Chinese Empress Bride” as his official entry. It bested thirty (30) designer-entries from all over the world and won for him the DESIGNER OF THE YEAR award, the most coveted title in the said competition. Consequently, he was offered to work as the Royal Designer for the ruling family of one of the emirates in the UAE. In spite of the expected pressures, Albert enjoyed his role in the palace. It exposed him to the best clothing materials and beadwork components which eventually helped him enhance his craft all the more. He would travel frequently to different countries and would stay in London for a month every year to broaden his design perspective and derive inspiration for his new collection for the royalties each year. While in London, he took the chance of attending fashion courses in the prestigious school of CENTRAL ST. MARTIN’S.
