What inspired your new collection?
P: In a pilot attempt to promote Singapore design andAsian heritage, PAULINE.NING was invited to collaboratewith IEX and MUSEUM LABEL to design a contemporarycollection inspired by artefacts in Singapore’s nationalcollection.
Taking experience from the uniquely fragile, yet strongqualities of a gem-set Chinese porcelain bowl made forthe Turkish market, I designed a mini collection thatartfully combines these two contrasting elements.
I first created a modern print interpreted from the flowerand insect paintings found inside the bowl, and exposedthe porcelain image underneath this print to imitate theartisan’s unexpected act of setting gemstones onto thebowl’s exterior. Following the bowl’s intriguing andunique composition, the collection featuresreconstructed prints and surprising elements offunctional hardware juxtaposed against soft fabrics.
Who is the PAULINE.NING woman?
P: Not trend-driven, confident and eclectic. Expect to findexquisite and one-of-a-kind pieces in her wardrobe.
If I weren’t a fashion designer, I would be…
P: A traveler.
My top 5 wardrobe essentials are…
P: Nylon jacket, metallic top, oversized bag, oversizedwatch and comfy flats.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
P: At this point in time, I am unable to think that far as Iam focused on growing the company. I will just keepworking hard and we will see how far it will take me.
